What makes you uniquely qualified to discuss financial and artistic freedom for musicians?

Created a six figure income as a touring and house musician over a 15-year period, entered financial services 4 years ago. Fully licensed in securities and insurance, attained FSCP® and ChFC® certifications and will complete CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certification in late spring.

What is a crazy-but-true fact about you?

Once played for 120,000 people at Union Station in Kansas City (or the David Hasselhoff story…)

Why is financial literacy among musicians important to you?

Artistic temperament and business acumen are not mutually exclusive; in fact, the opposite is true. Musicians must have a strong understanding of business and financial principals in order to create any long-term personal success or sustainability in the field. It might be a hand-to-mouth lifestyle in the early years, but it doesn’t have to remain that way forever.

What is one piece of advice you would impart on the audience?

It’s simply not enough to become great at the ‘music’ part of the ‘music business’; you must also become great at the ‘business’ part if you wish to have a comfortable and sustainable career in the field.
